Romesh Gunesekera’s first novel Reef was short-listed for the 1994 Booker Prize. His second, The Sandglass, received BBC's inaugural Asia Award and his third, Heaven’s Edge, like his collection of stories, Monkfish Moon, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His latest novel, The Match, was published in 2006 by Bloomsbury.

His fiction has been translated into ten languages, including Chinese. Reef is now an A-level recommended text and his books are taught on university courses in many countries.
He has taught fiction writing at Arvon and at universities in Singapore, Hong Kong, Denmark as well as Britain. He is currently a visiting tutor on the Master’s in writing at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
